The PRIDA visit to the Microbiology Laboratory at Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital (TTMH) in Samoa took place from March 3rd to 8th, 2025. This visit focused on enhancing laboratory capacity, particulalry MRO screening and susceptibility testing.
Key objectives of the visit included providing mentorship to TTMH laboratory teams, improving testing methods, and fostering communication between doctors and laboratory staff.
Recommendations from the visit focused on improving quality control for antibiotic discs, enhancing reporting procedures, and refining testing methods for various bacterial infections. Specific suggestions included optimizing storage for agar media, improving training for laboratory staff, and introducing new techniques for fluid analysis and cell counting.
PRIDA plans to provide further resources for antimicrobial stewardship, including workshops on parasitology and support for clinical microbiology training. The goal is to strengthen the laboratory's ability to manage infectious diseases and improve patient care in Samoa.
